Nomination

  • Members of the Curtin community who have some connection to caring for others are welcome to self-nominate as subjects in this project. Alternatively, you may wish to nominate someone who fulfils these criteria or is themselves a recipient of care.

What it will involve

  • Attending the artist’s studio in Floreat for a live portrait sitting lasting approximately 3 hours

  • Agree to be photographed and to sign a release form

  • Provide details about their connection to caring within the Curtin community

  • No cost for participation

  • Final art works to be displayed in a public exhibition at the Autism Association of WA

  • No obligation to purchase art works

  • All proceeds of art works sold to be donated to the Autism Association of WA

Terms and conditions

1. The portrait project team will choose 50 nominees from the pool of submissions.  Nominees not chosen will be offered a waitlist position in case of cancellations.

2. Nominees may be:

  • People with Autism or neurodiversity

  • Parents or carers of people needing support

  • Community members who champion, work with or support people with Autism or neurodiversity

3. Adults or children may be nominated.

4. Selected nominees must reside or work in the Federal Electorate of Curtin.

5. The portrait nominee will be required to attend the artist’s studio in Floreat for a portrait sitting and some photographs.  The time commitment is approximately 2-3 hours at an arranged time between April 2026 and March 2027. There is no cost to participants.

6. The artist will aim to paint or draw one portrait per week over the course of one year.  Selection of medium will be at the complete discretion of the artist. Works are intended to be ‘studies’ capturing the essence of the sitter. Works will be presented on canvas or paper, without framing.

7. The resulting portrait studies will be hung at an exhibition in the foyer of the Autism Association of WA, Shenton Park in April 2027.

8. A brief biography about the nominee will be completed by the project team and approved by the subject for inclusion in the exhibition catalogue.

9. Works will be available for sale, at an accessible price to be determined by the artist. There is no obligation for nominees to purchase the portraits.

10. Nominees will be invited to attend the exhibition opening, and the exhibition will remain available for general public viewing for at least two weeks.

11. All proceeds from the sale of artworks will be directed to the Autism Association of WA.

12. Copyright of all works remains with the artist.

13. The final work will not be available for viewing until the exhibition is opened.
